Tabor, Stephen

Stephen G. Tabor teaches THEA 150: Introduction to Acting at UW-Madison. He is a Madison transplant with Kentucky roots. He holds an MFA in Theater (Directing) from Southern Illinois University, along with a graduate certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and a BFA in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre, Directing) from Western Kentucky University. In the Madison area, he has directed with First Act Children’s Theatre, Prairie Music & Arts, and Edgewood College. In addition to directing and performing, Stephen is also an artist-scholar with a research interest in masculinity in musical theatre. His publications include “Performing Masculinity in Musical Theatre: One Approach” in the Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance (MTEA) journal. Select conference presentations include “Boys, Bros, and Buddies: A Practical Process for Fostering Intimacy among Actors Portraying Male Characters” at the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), “Corner of This Guy: Masculinity in Performance as Seen in the SIU Production of Pippin” (ATHE) and “Masculinity in Musical Theatre: Crafting Characters Performing Masculinity” at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC).  www.stephengtabor.com
