To be accepted as a theatre and drama degree candidate, you must apply to the University of Wisconsin–Madison Office of Admissions.
Our department does not require an audition or portfolio for entry into the major at this time. If you would like to speak to a representative about our department’s offerings and degree requirements, or to tour our facilities, please contact our undergraduate advisor.

Join us for an on-campus info session designed for prospective students interested in performance, design, directing, stage management, and more. During this event, you’ll take a guided tour of our theatre spaces—including classrooms, rehearsal studios, and production shops—and get a behind-the-scenes look at where our students learn, create, and perform.

Cue the Questions: Virtual Advising with the Department of Theatre and Drama

Are you a prospective student interested in studying Theatre and Drama at UW–Madison? Join us for Cue the Questions, a monthly virtual drop-in session designed to help you learn more about our department, academic pathways, and opportunities to get involved before you even step on campus!
Held on the third Friday of each month from 4:00 to 4:45 PM, this informal Zoom session is open to all prospective students. Whether you’re curious about majoring in Theatre and Drama, earning a Theatre Certificate, or simply exploring your options, this is your chance to ask questions and get personalized insights.
During the session, the department’s academic advisor will:

Theatre & Drama: Tour and a Show! feat. Little Women, the Broadway Musical
You’re invited to join us on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 12:45 PM for a guided tour of the Department of Theatre and Drama, followed by a performance of Little Women: The Broadway Musical. Each family will receive two complimentary tickets to the performance.
Please note: the deadline to register for this event is November 3, 2025. Each group will receive up to two complimentary tickets; additional tickets are available for purchase from the box office. UW Theatre & Drama productions frequently sell out, so we recommend purchasing additional tickets early if needed.
