Description: Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals. A 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Rehearsals begin: Monday 11/28,  general rehearsal schedule: M-F 6:30-10 pm

Performance Dates: February 16-26, 2023 in the Gilbert V. Hemsley Theatre

Casting: Performers of all ethnic and racial background are encouraged to audition.

**CASTING FEMALE IDENTIFYING ACTORS 18 AND OVER ONLY** All actors playing team characters must be able to play ages 16-17. This production has high physical demands and proficiency in basic soccer skills is a plus. Actors cast as the team will participate in soccer training. Athleticism/soccer skills will be evaluated at callbacks through movement exercises.

Course info: If cast, all UW students MUST enroll in Theatre 360.

What to prepare:

  • Actors will perform 1 monologue ranging from 1-1.5 minutes in length. The actors should select a monologue that reflects the life of a teenage girl. Comedic or dramatic. In addition to a prepared monologue, the actor will be asked to share a brief story about who they were in high school and where they belonged.
  • Actors who are called back will be asked to wear athletic attire to the callback (movable clothing and athletic shoes). The callbacks will consist of working with our soccer coach Romaric Setodji and doing cold readings. Cold readings will be emailed out the evening of Oct. 28.

  • #11 – Midfield. Brainy, morbid, budding elitist, thoughtful. Seventeen.
  • #25 – Defense, Captain. Classic (ex)coach’s daughter. Seventeen.
  • #13 – Midfield. Stoner, older pot dealer brother, into her wackiness. Sixteen.
  • #46 – Bench. New girl. Awkward, different, just wants to fit in. Sixteen.
  • #2 – Defense. Innocent, unlucky, kind, skinny. Sixteen.
  • #7 – Striker. Too cool for school. Sarcastic, thick eyeliner. Almost seventeen.
  • #14 – Midfield. #7’s insecure sidekick. She is Armenian and her race is discussed in the play. Just switched to contacts. Sixteen.
  • #8 – Defense. Plays dumber than she is. Sixteen.
  • #00 – Goalie. Intense performance anxiety, perfectionist, high achiever. Seventeen.
    Note: The role of the Soccer Mom will be performed by the original cast member in 2020.
