University Theatre Paints the Hall Pink!

The artists at University Theatre have gone the extra mile to complete the renovations of Shannon Hall.

The artists at University Theatre have gone the extra mile to complete the renovations of Shannon Hall.

With the upcoming production of Legally Blonde: The Musical, the Department of Theatre and Drama’s University Theatre has been hard at work updating the look of Shannon Hall.

The Memorial Union’s Shannon Hall was part of the first phase of the multi-million dollar update of the historic building nestled next to Lake Mendota on the UW campus.  The first phase of the project took two years to complete. This fall, work will begin on the second phase which includes renovations to the terrace and 1st and 2nd floors of the East wing of the Memorial Union.

Later this month, the Department of Theatre and Drama’s University Theatre will present Legally Blonde: The Musical in Shannon Hall.  The show, which opens on April 30th, showcases the talents of UW student designers and performers.  The production team has decided to provide a fully immersive experience for patrons by putting a “splash of pink” in the theatre.  The hope is that by filling the room with the title character’s signature color, the audience will have a richer and deeper engagement with the production.  “And it just looks amazing!” say the members of the community that have witnessed the transformation first hand….

Happy April Fool’s Day!

While we think it would look amazing, the Union didn’t go for our suggested “alterations” to the reinvestment project.  We ARE still presenting Legally Blonde: The Musical April 29th – May 3rd in Shannon Hall at the Memorial Union.

With 4 shows only, you should make sure you get your tickets soon.  Please visit the production’s information page, or you can purchase tickets directly by visiting the Memorial Union Box Office, Vilas Hall Box Office or the Arts on Campus Box Office online.
